The center totals 35,600 square feet which includes 6,800 square feet of retail space fronting Gay Street. The opening was celebrated with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, marking the official opening of the Publix Supermarket.
Located immediately adjacent to Auburn University and near historic Toomer’s Corner, the shopping center provides a convenient and easily accessible location for the rapidly growing residential core in downtown Auburn. This Publix fulfills a long-awaited vision by the City of Auburn to bring a grocery back to downtown and offers a full-service bakery, deli and pharmacy.
Other retailers joining Publix at The Shops on Gay Street include The Pants Store and Lux Nails. The Pants Store is now open for business.
The property is capitalized and owned by Birmingham-based Highline Real Estate Partners.
Nelson Architecture provided design services associated with the project and LBYD served as the project engineer with Batson-Cook Construction providing for construction services.
