A storied Birmingham shopping center is currently being demolished to make room for a new multi-use development.

Highland Plaza, once home to Western Supermarket, Hot and Hot Fish Club, Highland Package Store, and Taj India, among other businesses across more than eight decades, is being bulldozed to make way for a new development from Daniel Corporation. It has been a fixture of Birmingham’s retail culture since the late 1930s.
